Atopic dermatitis (AD) is one of the major allergic disorders and the morbidity of AD reaches even 10 to 20% worldwide. Interleukin 33 (IL-33), which is a protein involved in allergic disorders, is increased in the skin of AD. Based on the pathophysiology of AD, we have established a transgenic mouse line with the skin-specific expression of IL-33. This animal model fairly reproduces manifestations of human AD, and therefore it will be useful to research and develop novel therapeutic drugs for AD.
The transgenic mouse expresses the full length of human MMP-2 gene in all systemic organs. The TG mouse develops chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with pulmonary inflammation after a short exposure (2 weeks) to inhaled cigarette smoke extract.
The emergence and spread of multidrug-resistant P. aeruginosa (MDRP) infections is of great concern as very few agents are effective against these strains. Methanol extracts from Kampo markedly reduced aminoglycoside resistance of various P. aeruginosa strains including MDRP, which was dependent on the multidrug efflux system MexXY in P. aeruginosa. Compounds in both of the two extracts also showed similar inhibitory effects on aminoglycoside resistance of various P. aeruginosa strains.

Now, we developed new materials, and succeeded in capture and identification of whole target protein complexes, for example, new resin immobilized with FK506 can capture FKBP12, Calcineurin A/B, Calmodulin in Ag Stained electrophorogram.
We developed a new technology for ultrasonic imaging reproduction in order to train medical diagnostic methods. It was demonstrated that this medical simulation model provides a more realistic, high-fidelity, medical ultrasonic images by using a newly developed medium.
The advanced technology consists of three critical steps, which are preselection of aimed B lymphocytes by an antigen, the formation of B cell-myeloma cell complexes by biotin/streptavidin interactions and selective fusion of the B cell-myeloma complexes by electrical pulses. This technology features at least ten-times higher efficiency over the conventional technologies.
Zirconia is well used in medical and dental clinics because of high mechanical strength and chemical/biological stability. The bioactivity of the zirconia surface is still not enough to the surrounding living tissue, although many surface modification have been reported. We developed a novel method of Ca-ion incorporation into zirconia for enhancement of its bioactivity.
